There were many happy winners at the Quilt, Rug and Craft Fair in September, 2009.
At the Simcoe County Quilt, Rug and Craft Fair, three lucky people took home the outstanding prizes offered in the traditional raffle draw of the Simcoe County Arts <& Crafts Association.
The stunning quilt by Lois Bertram of Elmvale which was first prize was won by one of our own members, Maureen Walker of Phelpston, who met the Draw Convenor in a parking lot that evening so she could take it home. “It will look stunning on my sleigh bed,” she said.
Second prize was a primitive traditional hooked rug by Kathy Smith. It was won by Fransi Andersson of Barrie who was herself a winner in SCACA’s Juried Competition held at the end of June. She said she had seen the rug on display at that time and just loved it. That made the excitement of winning even better.
Louise Middleton of Barrie is a regular supporter of the draw and was very pleased to win the pine needle coiling basket vase by Hazel Martin. Louise had watched Hazel demonstrating the technique at the Fair earlier understood the amount of work that went into it.
There were 19 more winners in the Craft Gallery Draw where SCACA members donate an item for a pick-a-prize-auction style draw.
Proceeds from the draws help support the promotion of arts and crafts that has been the mandate of the Simcoe County Arts & Crafts Association for more than 60 years.
